The team

A mother - daughter duo.

Picking a wall colour isn’t easy. You need to understand the effect the context will have on that colour. Scale, lighting, all the existing materials and the interconnection between spaces - flow - all affect colour. Don’t guess.  Let PINK be your insurance against frustrating and expensive mistakes.

Colour influences our emotions every single day. Palette combinations should go beyond good taste to good feel. PINK Colour & Design will create combinations tailored to your psychological needs as well as your furnishings. Whether you need drama or calm, spaciousness  or cozy closeness, find out how amazing the right colours will feel every single day!

How did Janice become the colour specialist?

  • She received a degree in Art History from U of T.

  • 10 years as a theatre designer including Stratford Festival meant using colour big!

  • 10 years as a stylist for film and photography.

  • Started her own business, PINK Colour & Design in 1995.

  • She was an international colour consultant for PPG, a job that included giving talks on colour and design across the continent, writing colour articles, helping design their new colour system.

  • She was colour and design columnist for the Globe and Mail and House and Home for years.

  • She is the author of 400 page book All About Colour (2008)

  • She developed and taught Power of Colour workshops for designers and architects.

Why choose Janice as your designer?

Janice does not design for you. She designs with you.

Don’t pay a designer to do all the things you can do yourself. Hire Janice to be your sounding board, your insurance policy against costly mistakes - your personal coach. You drive the bus when it comes to budget, scope of work and the design goals. She will help you get there. Let her strengthen your good ideas and edit away the others. Book a consultation only when you need help. She is happy to brainstorm through your to-do list and let you run with it. Kitchens, bathrooms, space planning, prioritizing, shopping, upholstery, flooring, lighting? - sure. Whatever you need. Save time and money and start to actually enjoy your design process instead of fretting. Already have an architect or a designer and just want a second opinion on a few things? Not a problem. The idea is to get you where you need to go in the best way possible.

Why have you not heard about her if she is so good?? She is the invisible designer. Your design results will be all about you, not her.

What is the scope of her work?

Basement apartments, mega mansions, a resort development in Exuma, clients from England to California but most are close to her home base - Toronto.

Her design practice evolved out her decades doing colour consultations and often clients needed more. Her background in Art history and theatre design and film means that she has a very open minded and fluid sense of good design. The guiding principle is: if it works for you, it works. If it feels good, it is good. Good design is as much about the feel as the look. If your space feels comfortable, if it makes you happy every day, it was a job well done.
