No budget to start from scratch so I left the fake brick and worked with it, going for casual and cozy. Reupholstered the daybed with fabric remnants. Replaced the kitchenette when the old one caved in. Added a skylight but could not remove rafters unless I got a permit so I left them in and love them. Had to leave the bathroom so I used bold colour and an IKEA vanity to improve things - plus a tropical painting by my daughter Caroline over the new toilet. On the IKEA bed I made a headboard from a piece of foam and a scrap of Pierre Frey fabric. The lamps were flea market finds I decorated for my daughter years ago but she was never crazy about them. It feels great to use the stuff that’s been in the basement forever. The little work space and a closet were created by stealing space from the apartment on the other side of the wall.
